Use a grater to shred the 2 1/2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. I used a 16-ounce block of cheese with plenty of cheese left over. You could probably get away with 8 ounces, but it's better to be safe than sorry!
Add the cream cheese to a medium-sized bowl, and mix it until it is soft. Add the ranch dressing and shredded cheese.
Next, shape the cheese into a ball and roll into the pecans.
Place the ball in the refrigerate until ready to serve!
